Merlin

The children are currently being introduced to Merlin - a brand new IT learning platform.  The beauty of this new venture is that the children will be able to access their own learning area from home in a completely safe environment. To find out more about this exciting venture please click onto the Merlin logo above.

Supporting Charities

Over several years our pupils and staff have supported many charities including Barnardos, Unicef, Red Nose, NSPCC, Roald Dahl Foundation, Samaritans Purse, Marie Curie and Children in Need.  In doing so we have managed to raise the staggering total of £2,247.89.  This is a great achievement which we are very proud of.

Recently many children asked to support the earthquake appeal in Haiti.  They had many ideas for fund raising including running a nearly new stall outside Central stores with kind permission of the owners Bella & Mike.

Many thanks for helping to fill the Milk Carton in aid of Sport Relief at the end of March. We raised £33.55 in one week. Mrs Taylor completed the London Marathon on Sunday 25th April in aid of CLIC Sargeant Cancer Charity and the children raised approximately £190 on a Mufti Day.

A Big Thank You to 'The Friends'

We are all very grateful to the Friends of the School for their many fund raising events which enabled us to provide valuable resources for our pupils which we could not  afford from the school budget.  They have provided us with many extra items including new computers, new toilets and a substantial donation to refurbish the school library.  We are extremely fortunate in having such a dedicated and committed 'Friends' group. The Friends also enabled the school to improve the children's play facilities by donating the funding for the equipment in the new play trail area.  Please see separate page for more details of Friends activities.

Building works

Our programme of building works continues to move ever forward.  We  have a new dedicated room for small groups of children to work with support. The 50 year old metal windows in the hall, reception classroom and year one class have been replaced and more recently the year two classroom has undergone the same transformation. The new playground adventure play trail has proved a huge success and the children are really enjoying it.  We are constantly striving to improve the fabric of the school and have had visits by professional advisors to enable us to put in place a programme of improvements over the future years. During the Summer holidays we are looking forward to improving the Key Stage 1 area of the school by structural alterations and redecoration.

Winterslow does well!

League labels show how well the children at Winterslow school did in 2008.  Winterslow school scores ranked it 43rd out of 164 schools based on percentage total. The contextual Value Added score was 101.5 which placed us overall 6th in Wiltshire.  This score is based on progress made from Key Stage 1 to formal assessment at the end of Key Stage 2, our figures in Winterslow included 6 children who joined the school during the key stage 2.

Sunflower Success

During our curriculum enrichment times in Key Stage 1, the children have enjoyed growing sunflowers.  The children all took seeds home and carefully tended and nurtured them with two of our children who successfully grew theirs taller than others with heights up to 151cm for Holly and Owen. We also have a lovely display of plants at the front of the school thanks to the children well supported by Mrs Robinson, Mrs Waters, Mrs Fealy, Mrs Lawes and Mrs Walker.  The children also took part in a local competition to design a garden.  Out of approximately 300 entries Emily came 10th - well done! The designs were displayed in the Cross Keys centre in Salisbury.

The Race of the sunflowers!
